Theological Analysis

What we learn about God

God is a deliverer and protector of those who seek Him with a sincere heart. Asa cried to the LORD his God, “O LORD, there is none like you to help, between the mighty and the weak. Help us, O LORD our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this multitude. O LORD, you are our God; let not man prevail against you.” (2 Chronicles 14:11)

Christological Connection

Asa's reliance on God foreshadows the complete reliance that believers should have on Jesus for salvation and victory over spiritual enemies. I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:6)

Systematic Theology

Salvation by faith. Asa trusted God and God saved them.

Law & Grace

Asa's obedience to the law by removing idols was followed by God's grace in delivering them from the Cushites. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God. (Ephesians 2:8)

Personal Application

We should actively remove anything from our lives that hinders our relationship with God, and diligently seek Him in prayer. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. (James 4:8)
