Theological Analysis

What we learn about God

We see God as a covenant-keeping God. Ought you not to know that the LORD God of Israel gave the kingship over Israel forever to David and his sons by a covenant of salt? (2 Chronicles 13:5)

Christological Connection

Jesus is the ultimate fulfillment of the Davidic covenant, the eternal King. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David. (Luke 1:32)

Systematic Theology

Divine Sovereignty: God is in control of the outcome of battles and the rise and fall of nations. God struck Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah. (2 Chronicles 13:15)

Law & Grace

Although Abijah was not perfect, God showed grace by granting Judah victory when they cried out to Him. When Judah looked, behold, the battle was in front of them and behind them. And they cried to the LORD, and the priests blew the trumpets. (2 Chronicles 13:14)

Personal Application

We should trust in God's promises, even when facing overwhelming odds, and call on Him in times of trouble. Call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.” (Psalm 50:15)
