Theological Analysis

What we learn about God

For the king trusts in the Lord, and through the steadfast love of the Most High he shall not be moved. (Psalm 21:7) God is trustworthy and demonstrates steadfast love.

Christological Connection

This Psalm, while about a historical king, can be seen as prophetic of Christ, the ultimate King whose victory is assured. Jesus will ultimately conquer his enemies, but his death was a victory over death. The Lord said to my Lord, ‘Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool’. Psalm 110:1

Systematic Theology

Kingship of God. This Psalm underscores God's authority and power exercised through his chosen leaders, ultimately pointing to Christ's sovereign rule.

Law & Grace

While not explicitly stated, the Psalm implies that the king's blessings are a result of God's grace and favor, not earned by strict adherence to law. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, Ephesians 2:8.

Personal Application

Be exalted, O Lord, in your strength! We will sing and praise your power. (Psalm 21:13). We should recognize and celebrate God's power and victory in our own lives, offering praise and thanksgiving.
