God is holy and cannot dwell where sin abounds. His glory is a powerful presence that departs when defilement occurs. The glory of Yahweh departed from the temple (Ezekiel 10:4).

Christological Connection

Systematic Theology

Law & Grace

The law is reflected in the consequences of sin, which cause God's glory to depart. Grace is seen in the potential for restoration if the people repent and turn back to God.

Personal Application

People should examine their hearts and lives, repenting of any sin that would drive away God's presence. They should strive to live in a way that honors God and invites His glory to dwell within them. Examine yourselves whether you are in the faith, test yourselves (2 Corinthians 13:5).
