Scholar Insight

Theological Analysis

What we learn about God

We learn of God's unwavering support and protection for those who are serving him through the vision that Paul receives in Acts 18:9-10 where God tells Paul "Do not be afraid any longer, but go on speaking and do not be silent; for I am with you, and no man will attack you in order to harm you, for I have many people in this city.”

Christological Connection

Jesus is directly referenced as the Christ, the Messiah, when Paul "testifying to the Jews that Jesus is the Christ" (Acts 18:5).

Systematic Theology

The doctrine of divine providence is evident in God’s intervention and guidance in Paul’s ministry, protecting him from harm and assuring him of success in Corinth.

Law & Grace

While the passage does not directly contrast law and grace, the Jews attempt to use the Roman legal system (law) to silence Paul. God's grace is seen in protecting Paul despite this opposition.

Personal Application

People should respond with boldness and perseverance in sharing the Gospel, trusting in God's protection and provision, even in the face of opposition. "Do not be afraid any longer, but go on speaking and do not be silent; for I am with you, and no man will attack you in order to harm you, for I have many people in this city.” (Acts 18:9-10)
