Theological Analysis

What we learn about God

Even while in great despair, Job is still turning to God for answers, questioning his actions, and asking for forgiveness. "If I sin, what do I do to you, you watcher of mankind? Why have you made me your mark? Why have I become a burden to you?" Job 7:20

Christological Connection

While not a direct reference, Job's desire for a mediator, someone to stand between him and God, can be seen as a foreshadowing of Jesus's role as the ultimate Mediator. "There is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus." 1 Timothy 2:5

Systematic Theology

Human Frailty: This passage emphasizes the limitations of human existence, our vulnerability to suffering, and our dependence on God.

Law & Grace

Job feels abandoned and questions if he has done something to offend God. "Why do you not pardon my transgression and take away my iniquity?" Job 7:21 He is asking for grace and for God to overlook his mistakes.

Personal Application

We should acknowledge the reality of suffering, both in our own lives and in the lives of others. And we should approach God with honesty, even when we have questions and doubts. "Therefore I will not restrain my mouth; I will speak in the anguish of my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul." Job 7:11
