2 Samuel 5

Theological Analysis

What we learn about God

We learn about God's power and faithfulness to his promises. "For the Lord, the God of hosts, was with him." (2 Samuel 5:10)

Christological Connection

David's kingship foreshadows the eternal kingship of Jesus Christ, who will rule over all.

Systematic Theology

Covenant. God fulfills his covenant with David, promising him a lasting kingdom.

Law & Grace

David's leadership reflects the law's requirement for just rule, but God's grace empowers him. "He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation." (Colossians 1:15).
