Main Highlights

Paul rebukes the Corinthians for their immaturity and division, emphasizing that they are God's field and building, and that all work will be tested by fire.

So then neither the one who plants is anything, nor the one who waters, but God who causes the growth.- 1 Corinthians 3:7
According to the grace of God which was given to me, like a wise master builder I laid a foundation, and another is building on it. But let each one be careful how he builds on it. For no one can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.- 1 Corinthians 3:10-11

Scholar Insight

"“Paul’s point is that the Corinthian’s problem of factionalism is not merely a social ill but a spiritual deficiency. They are still immature and cannot handle solid food. Their partisanship is the evidence.” - Anthony Thiselton, The First Epistle to the Corinthians (NIGTC; Grand Rapids, MI: Eerdmans, 2000), p. 254."
